Luton Hoo Golf Competition Q&A – Steve Howarth

Recently, we have been running some fantastic golf tuition competitions in Herts Advertiser, Today’s Golfer and through our twitter account to celebrate hosting the Bridgestone Challenge (7-10 September) for the first time this year. We offered three budding local golfers the chance to receive four tuition sessions each from our Luton Hoo golf pros, a place in the Bridgestone Challenge pre-event Pro-Am on 6 September, an overnight stay at Luton Hoo and an invitation to a gala dinner in the evening following the Pro-Am.

Following on from the first blog in our winners’ series with Greg Mathew, we have now caught up with our second winner, Steve Howarth who entered the competition with Today’s Golfer, to find out a little more about him.

How did it feel to find out you had won the competition and what are you most looking forward to?
It felt great! Receiving the email to say I had won definitely put a big smile on my face. I am very much looking forward to it all but especially the expert tuition and playing in the Pro-Am.

Have you played in a Pro-Am competition before and what are you most looking forward to about the Bridgestone Challenge?
Yes, I have played in one Pro-Am before, in the Jamega Tour where I was a proud member of the winning team.  I’m looking forward to playing with a young professional, assisting them in being successful in the competition and possibly picking up some valuable tips and advice myself.

When did you start playing golf and what do you love about it?
I first started playing golf around 30 years ago, but have only begun taking my game seriously in the last 12 years. I like golf because, as a player, you are trying to beat yourself every time you play, meaning there is always a challenge ahead of you and always room for improvement.

Who are your golfing heroes?
My golfing heroes would be Sir Nicholas Alexander Faldo MBE and Severiano Ballesteros.

How did you find your first tuition session/what did you learn etc?
The first session with the Luton Hoo pros was excellent and extremely informative. I took a lot away from the session but one of the main things was my technique and game are fairly strong so I am happy with that and look forward to developing my game further as the sessions progress.
