Begin Your Open Water Swimming Journey at Luton Hoo

So, you love swimming but crave the excitement of a new swimming experience? We’ve got just the opportunity for you here at Luton Hoo.

In partnership with Active Training World Ltd (ATW), we are delighted to be able to welcome confident swimmers to enjoy a 1km swim lap as well as shorter distances including a 150m loop for open water beginners. Open water swimming in lakes, rivers and the sea is growing in popularity and a lake is the ideal starting place.

The glorious lake within the Luton Hoo estate showcases the serenity of the Capability Brown landscape in the heart of the Lea Valley. Curious to explore the challenge under the watchful eye of ATW’s water-safety team? Read on…

Experienced open water swimmers can swim all year round, and we’re offering an invigorating season from May to the end of September as our local swimmers and hotel guests come out of hibernation in so many respects this spring!

Whilst the water may be a little chilly, acclimatising to this and working on your personal breathing techniques and swim strokes will be both sociable and fun. Experts are at hand for help and advice to keep you safe and ensure you enjoy yourselves as they accompany swimmers on the water in their kayaks.

Have you made the decision to do it? Take a look at the pre-swim information with tips about whether or not to wear a swimming wet suit (different to the surfing kind) and how to layer up on post-swim clothes to get cosy afterwards. Then… why not book a session for you and a friend to dip your toes in and begin your open water swimming journey.
