Pop the leap year question at Luton Hoo

Leap Year is the traditional time that ladies can propose marriage - and where better to pluck up the courage to do it than in the romantic surroundings of Luton Hoo?

The country house hotel on the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire border has organised a very special romantic package in the mansion house where the Queen and Prince Philip stayed on their honeymoon. It will provide the perfect backdrop for anyone planning to pop the question on the special date that only happens once every four years.

Arriving on Friday, February 29th, the couple will each enjoy a pampering 5 Senses Body Treatment, plus the use of the spa facilities for the day. A bottle of luxury Lois Roederer champagne will be waiting for them in one of the hotel’s luxury state mansion house suites, The Queen Elizabeth, and a private four-course candlelit dinner will be served in the suite, providing just the right moment to propose.

Other romantic treats include candles in the bathroom and rose petals on the bed and if the gentleman says ‘yes’ the couple will be offered special incentives for wedding, honeymoon and future anniversary bookings at Luton Hoo.

The tradition that encourages women to pop the question dates back to 1288, when Scotland passed a law allowing women to propose marriage to the man of their choice. They also made it law that any man who declined a proposal in a leap year must pay a fine, which could range from a kiss to payment for a silk dress or a pair of gloves!

Luton Hoo’s special Leap Year romantic package costs £1,235 per couple. For further information, and reservations, telephone 01582 698888 or 01582 734437.
