Luton Hoo

For the distinguished guests who were fortunate enough to stay at Luton Hoo when it was a private residence, the Mansion House and its surrounding estate were pleasure grounds which they were invited to enjoy. And so it is again today.

Modern day guests walk in the footsteps of some illustrious former visitors to the house, such as Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth II, Winston Churchill and Lord Mountbatten to name but a few. They would recognise some of the attractions as they were in bygone days – for example the fully restored Victorian grass tennis court with its pavilion that revolves to follow the day’s sun – or the opportunities for game and clay pigeon shooting, or fishing and boating on the serpentine lake.

Such pastimes have been joined by more contemporary amenities including the Spa at Luton Hoo, beautifully converted from the original Bothy building and extended with a swimming pool, housed under an oak-beam roof with views over the Flower Garden Wood. And of course the par 73, 7,107 yard golf course with breathtaking vistas of the house and its rolling estate.
