First Hole in One For Hoo & Golfer Mark
Golfer Mark Bierton celebrated a double first when he teed off with colleagues at Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa.
Mark, the hotel’s Conference & Banqueting Operations Manager, scored his first ever hole in one, which was also the first time the landmark shot had been achieved on the course since it opened two years ago.
The ultimate golfing accolade happened at the 7th hole, 188 yards par 3, and was witnessed by fellow players Kevin Clarke, Luton Hoo’s Executive Chef, and Edzard Grefe, Manager of the Wernher Restaurant.
Mark, whose handicap is 20, said: “I started playing golf when I was 18 at my local golf course here in Luton. I then moved around the country with my work and played in many different locations. Since moving back, and joining Luton Hoo in October 2007, I usually play at on a Monday with colleagues on courses around the South East, as well as occasionally playing at the Hoo.
“I have never seen a hole in one before, only ever on TV in competition play. At first wasn’t sure so I checked with my fellow players and they confirmed and congratulated me. The usual tradition would be to buy all golfers in the group a drink, but I escaped with just a coffee in the bar afterwards!”
