“EUGENE ONEGIN”
By  Tchaikovsky

OPERA at LUTON HOO with CANDLELIGHT OPERA

Saturday 16th  and Sunday 17th October 2010  - from 6pm

Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s opera based upon Pushkin’s poem tells of the young, dreamy Tatiana, who develops from a young girl to experienced woman over the course of this lush romantic masterpiece, and her infatuation for the aristocrat, Eugene Onegin, the nobleman whose aristocratic façade is pierced by love, but only too late.

Candlelight Opera present this beautifully costumed performance inside the magnificent setting of The Romanov Chapel as part of the ‘Opera in the House’ season at Luton Hoo.

Luton Hoo provides a very special venue for this opera with a fascinating link to the poet Pushkin.  The Luton Hoo estate was purchased in 1903 by Sir Julius Wernher with the profits of the South African diamond mines. The Mansion and Estate passed to his son Harold – who married Lady Anastasia de Torby (Lady Zia) who was related to the last Tsar of Russia and also Pushkin.

Audiences will have the option of attending a pre-performance talk on the opera with a descendant of Lady Zia giving a personal insight to the inspiration of the poet, Pushkin, and the family connections.

Opera tickets:  £47.50 & £52.50

Overnight packages from £115 per person
