A Year in the Life of Luton Hoo
A Football Association meeting, launch of the VW Tiguan, opening of Junction 10 of the M1, a conference that involved an ice rink being built and the recent presentation to Bedfordshire’s lottery millionaire are just some of the diverse events hosted by Luton Hoo over the past year.
It is now 12 months since Elite Hotels opened Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa following an investment of more than £60 million to transform the 18th century Mansion and surrounding 1,065-acre estate into a five-star property.
Since then the number of staff from the local area, has grown to more than 200 and more are being recruited in the run up to the opening of Warren Weir, the next stage in the hotel’s development. This purpose built meeting venue overlooking the River Lea opens in June and is available for exclusive use. It has 84 bedrooms and suites, five function rooms, a hospitality lounge and its own leisure facilities, including a swimming pool, gym and snooker room. Luton Hoo General Manager, Richard Baker MBE, said: “It has certainly been an eventful year, but one I am very proud to have been part of. Employees are at the heart of any business and the team at Luton Hoo have played a major role in building the success of Luton Hoo in its first year. It is very pleasing to see so many local people working at the hotel and I look forward to welcoming more when we open Warren Weir. Great interest has already been shown in this new facility and bookings are growing rapidly.
“Since opening Luton Hoo we have attracted a wide range of business and events, both on the leisure and corporate side, locally and from around the globe, and we look forward to developing this further. Despite current challenges we are still growing as a hotel, and opening further rooms and facilities, and I am very pleased that we are already welcoming repeat guests and have built strong links with the local business community. Our aim is to maintain and exceed the standards we have already set and I am very much looking forward to our second year in business.”
